Map Screen

The map screen shows you a map of your current surrounds. You can scroll the map to a location of your choosing. Your waypoints are visible on the map, and you can view an MGRS/UTM grid overlay with grid labels.

Map settings

To change map related settings, press the settings button in the lower left corner. See map settings screen for further info.

Using the crosshairs

The crosshairs location is shown in the bottom right corner. Shown beneath the crosshairs location is:

• the distance and bearing from your current location to the crosshairs (if no point is selected), eg FROM CURRENT: 12.1 km 120 deg(T).

OR

• the distance and bearing from the selected point (if a point is selected), eg FROM SELECTED: 12.1 km 120 deg(T).

These features can be used to plan routes or to fill out navigation data sheets.

Interacting with points

Your points are shown on the map. Point names will appear as the map is zoomed in. To see more information about a point, tap it. Only the cross and surrounding circle is sensitive to touches. A point is selected when it is tapped, and its location and distance/bearing from your current location will be displayed. To view further details about the point, tap the point again. The point detail screen will appear.

To deselect a point, tap elsewhere in the map.

Actions

Tapping the action button in the top right corner will reveal the following actions:

• Add point at current location. This option creates a new point at your current location.
• Add point at crosshairs. This option creates a new point at the crosshairs.
• Navigate to crosshairs. This option creates a new point at the crosshairs location, sets it as the destination, and switches to the navigation screen.

Performance tips

On older devices the map can perform sluggishly due to high memory and CPU usage. To improve performance on these devices try the following:

• switch to the blank or satellite map type (satellite maps are image based and do not require the vector rendering of the standard or hybrid maps)
• turn off the MGRS/UTM grid overlay
• turn unneeded overlays off and minimise the number of points displayed on screen at any one time
